1. What got you started with this brand? What was your inspiration? What is the idea/concept behind it?
I started theartofyarn in 2018 just to post about my crocheted and knitted projects. Back then, I just left my job in Advertising and pursued freelancing as a Marketing consultant. Then later that year, I learned how to weave and started teaching workshops for Modern Weaving around March 2019. I chose the name “theartofyarn” because I didn’t want to be limited by what I can do and learn in terms of yarn art. I know how to knit, crochet, weave, and do macrame, and I wanna learn new yarn art as I move forward, with hopes to also share this with more people.

2. What is your personal favorite product from your brand?
I’d say the weaving kit! Modern Weaving was a self-taught skill and what I teach is based on my own learning experience combined with research. My first ever weaving kit was made of different items that were accessible to me–I made use of a screen print frame as my loom, fork as my comb, etc. I’m proud of how the weaving kit has been curated to really help beginners learn it easier.

3. What do you want people to experience with your brand/product(s)?
My main products are my weaving kits; they are compact tools for one to be able to learn the basics of modern weaving. Being modern doesn’t take away the tradition because the materials included have a corresponding mechanic in a traditional practice, so this craft introduces our cultural heritage in a different approach.

4. What tips and advice can you give to entrepreneurs who are just starting out or are planning to start their own brand?
For fellow crafters who are planning to sell their handmade pieces, it’s really scary and intimidating at first, but do not hesitate to ask your circle of family and friends first for support. They will definitely be your first customers and it will give you more confidence to put your stuff out there.

5. What’s next for your brand?
I’m releasing new weaving kits for Christmas and launching my YouTube channel soon! The channel is mainly for kids to provide them with weaving and yarn crafts, as well as for teachers who might be looking for video resources to provide to their class in the time of distance learning.
