La Jardinera

Founders: Mikee Cordora and Allen Serrano

1. What got you started with this brand? What was your inspiration? What is the idea/concept behind it?

La Jardinera Manila sprouted from my partner and I’s appreciation for the earth’s natural riches, and the beauty of the great outdoors. As a couple, we love going to the beach and spending some quality time in the most relaxing places in the Philippines–where you can hear nothing but the sound of birds chirping in the morning, and watch the trees as they sway in the wind, while enjoying each other’s company.

Some would think it’s irrational to start a business in the middle of a pandemic, but on the contrary, it gave us the motivation to start on a new venture. When the quarantine started, my partner and I would constantly search for ways to keep ourselves calm, clear-headed, and creative amidst what’s happening in the world–hence, the birth of La Jardinera Manila.

Just like everyone else, we strive to seek ways to keep ourselves sane and calm while we face both work and life struggles. At La Jardinera, we work to help as much people as we could to lessen their stress and anxieties, and one of the simplest ways to do this is by bringing nature into their homes in a more stylish way.

2. What is your personal favorite product from your brand?

Our personal favorite would have to be the Trailing Golden Pothos and the Stacked Round Pots simply because they look beautiful paired together.

3. What do you want people to experience with your brand/product/s?

La Jardinera aspires to help its audience fulfill their desires to be responsible plant owners, and we constantly seek to do that by providing them thoughtfully curated plant collections.

4. What tips and advice can you give to entrepreneurs who are just starting out or are planning to start their own brand?

As a pair of individuals who are also new entrepreneurs, one of the things we learned when we founded La Jardinera is to never let your self-doubts or your what ifs hold you back from reaching your desired goals. Afraid you won’t get as many customers? Worrying about the risks? Scared people might not like what you plan to offer them? Trial and error play a vital role in business–but the beauty of it is you make mistakes, and you learn from them. Set your goals straight, know your consumers, research on the latest trends, seek some advice from your family and close friends, and just believe that your business ideas will eventually come into existence.

5. What’s next for your brand?

La Jardinera aims to promote environmentalism and consumer awareness. The plant community has grown immensely this year. As such, news is circulating about the Philippines being involved in Plant Poaching, and the only way we can avoid this act is to educate ourselves better about plants, encourage our audience to propagate, by growing more of their plants in their care without having to buy the same plants repeatedly, and researching more about the plants they plan to adopt.

6. What other additional information and details would you like to share?

La Jardinera Manila offers thoughtfully curated plants, hand-painted pots, and plant needs. Prices range from Php 299-Php 799.
